Criminal Rock is a family band of rock 'n' roll outlaws based near the blue waters of Port Huron, Michigan. The band consists of Brian (Dad) on drums/vocals, Emma (Daughter) on bass/keys/vocals, and Tre (Son) on guitar/vocals. Criminal Rock's style is a mix of hard rock, classic rock, metal, punk, and hip hop. The band has been described as raw, high energy, power trio, refreshing, and stoner metal.
Brian was born and raised in the city of Port Huron where he started playing drums as a child with his Dad. He continued drumming at Port Huron High School as jazz band drummer and as a snare drummer in the Big Red Marching Machine. Brian also played drums in local band Four Footer (aka Blind Flight, aka Backdrop) with his friends Derrick, Kevin, and Scott. They jammed and played shows in Brian’s basement which was like a local venue at the time known as “The Basement”.
Emma was born in 1999 and three months later the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Some of Brian’s band members followed him to Arizona and they continued as Backdrop for a couple years. Tre was born in 2001 and shortly after Brian began another band called Hammer Down with his brother Joe, and friends Josh and Ken. The family spent seven years in Arizona before moving to Sacramento, California in 2006. Brian continued jamming and making music in California for about six years before Emma and Tre, influenced by their Dad’s love for music, started jamming with him in 2012. Thus the family lineup Criminal Rock was born!
Criminal Rock contributed to Sacramento’s local music scene for about five years by consistently playing gigs and attending other local band’s gigs. Old Ironsides in downtown Sac was the first music venue to give the family trio a shot and it became a regular gig for the band over the years. Holy Diver was another well known Sacramento venue the band played frequently. They spent the final quarter of 2016 recording and in January of 2017 they released their own DIY twelve song album, “A Light in the Dark”. The band went on tour the following summer and played a handful of shows in California, Arizona, Missouri, and Michigan including a benefit show that raised nearly $1000 for Port Huron Township fire department.
After nearly twenty years out west the family relocated back home to Port Huron in July of 2018. Five months later Criminal Rock was nominated for three awards for the 2018 Blue Water Music Awards. The nominations were for Rookie of the Year Award, WTF Award, and Best Female Award. Criminal Rock won the WTF Award, Emma won the Best Female Award, and the band performed at the awards ceremony! In January of 2020 the band began recording their second DIY album, “Panic Attack”. It was released April 10, 2020. “Thank you to those who like our music and support our endeavors!!”
